Mind the Gap is a consortium led by Be Onsite, Lendlease’s not-for-profit company, in partnership with the CITB combining the skills of various organisations with the objective of filling the skills gap in the construction industry.
Each party brings their area of specialism to the partnership and working alongside A Fairer Chance, Mitie, Lendlease and BeOnsite, as an acknowledged innovator in providing construction skills training, qualifications and support both in and out of prison Bounce Back deliver the training provision. Our courses respond directly to the needs of the partners in the group and our case managers also offer support on, and for up to a year post release to assist both the individuals and their employers with the passage into work.
Mind the Gap is a complete package that gives participants leaving prison skills training, support and sustainable employment in the construction industry. Working across England, it also provides training and guidance for employers to reduce skills gaps and reoffending rates through successful partnerships. It addresses the skills needs of the construction industry by opening up new pathways to employment and marrying the industry’s need for new talent with society’s need to reduce offending and reoffending.
The project was devised in response to the Construction Skills Network forecast that suggests that an extra 158,000 new jobs will be created over the next five years as the industry expands. Many employers in the construction sector are competing within a tightening labour market due to ongoing skills shortages. With over 11 million people in the UK with a criminal record, Mind the Gap seeks to help employers to access this vast potential talent pool.
Over the three-year duration of the project, the programme will cover London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and other regions across England.
